Corrections for Writing Test

Hi Class,

In general your writing tests were good. All of you got the basic ideas across well. I’m proud of you!

Here are some common mistakes I found on your writing exams. I think you would like to know how to correct them, so I’m putting this on the blog for everyone. I put mistakes that occurred most often in bold. Please study this list so that you won’t make these mistakes again.

I will meet you tomorrow after you finish your 10 – 11 exam to go over your grades for the third partial. I hope all of you can come so we can take a group photo and say goodbye. I have really enjoyed working with you this semester. Best of luck as you finish your career here. I will always remember you!

Brenda

Important Information!

Hello Class,
Please remember that we will finish Unit 11 tomorrow.

I will meet those of you who have not yet described a graph at 10 on Wednesday in our classroom for the speaking evaluation.

I will meet you at 10 on Thursday for a listening and reading evaluation, unless we have time to do that tomorrow in class.

Your first partial test is scheduled for March 6, and I have to post your grades by March 8. I cannot accept any late work.

Your writing evaluation will consist of what you have already put on your blog and your reflections of the first partial period, units 9 -11. Please include comments about how you feel about using the blog, working with a native teacher, our classroom dynamics, and anything outside of class that you are doing to improve your English. The reflections must be posted to your blog by March 4 in order for me to complete your continuous evaluation on time. I will not have time to read anything after March 4; however, I will check to see that you have made the corrections that I suggest.

Good luck preparing for your tests!

speaking assignment for Friday

Hi everyone,

I spoke to the head of the English Department about your request to miss class tomorrow. I know some of you live far away and have other family and job responsibilities; therefore I'm giving you two options for tomorrow's class. I will be in class and you have to choose one of the following options.

(1) Come to class tomorrow and listen to / sing some love songs in English and have a conversation with me. This will count as a speaking evaluation.

(2) Find two partners from your class, choose role A, B, or C, memorize the following dialog and present it in class Friday for a speaking evaluation.

A: We need to decide how to increase sales this month. Any ideas?

B: What about offering some discounts?

C: That’s a good idea but our prices are already cheaper than our competitors.

B: So why not send some advertising to customers? We could tell them about our prices.

B: I like that. I think we also need to use Internet and email more.

C: What do you mean?

B: Well, perhaps we could email some of our old customers and update the website?

C: That’s true. Our website is the same as it was six months ago.

A: OK. I’ll deal with that.

C: What about inviting someone from the local newspaper to visit the factory and show them our new range?

A: Brilliant! But I think we should invite all the newspapers.

C: I’m not sure about that. Do you think they would come?

B: We could at least try and see what happens.

Happy Valentine's Day!
